Drawing has always been an interest of Ian's.
He started work in 1979 working as a draughtsman (before computers) and it was during this time his cartoons and caricatures really came to the fore. His career has always involved drawing and in 1999 he took the plunge becoming self-employed to pursue a full time artist career.
Initially his caricature business involved only drawing people from photos (sent in by post) but after being asked many times to do parties he eventually decide to give it a go. After a period of intensive self-training he became quick enough to draw caricatures in 5 minutes and so started doing "LIVE" caricatures in 2000. Possibly the best way to show how partygoers greet his drawings is to say more often than not he ends up drawing for another hour because everyone wants their own caricature !
Ian's caricatures have evolved considerably since 2000. His aim has always been to create a very simplified/stylised image. He now also draws "symbolic" caricatures (three examples can be seen in the portfolio here).
